Learn what Email Deliverability actually means for email senders like you
You want your Emails to get seen, right?
Well duh! Of course you do.
We use (and pay for!) Email Marketing tech so that we can send emails to make sales and grow our business.
But… an email that doesn’t get in front of someone’s eyeballs can’t do anything to build relationships or sell stuff.
So job number one is to get your Marketing Emails delivered to the inbox.

The 7 steps every email needs to get through to make a sale
Write > Send > Deliver > See > Open > Read > Click
Send > Deliver – those two steps are critically important, but really easy to overlook in favour of making a pretty new layout, or getting the copy exactly right.
Send and Deliver matters, a lot. It’s how your emails get to the inbox.

How to know if you have an Email Deliverability problem
As an expert email strategist and ActiveCampaign consultant, I’ve seen more questions, confusion and misinformation on Email Deliverability than all the other email marketing topics put together.
Email Deliverability is often only noticed and talked about once you realise you have a problem because worrying signs hit the surface, where you can see them…
Five signs you have a problem with Email deliverability
- Falling open rates
- Complaints about expected emails not showing up
- Emails getting spam-warnings or put in the Spam Folder
- Rising Spam complaints & reports of abuse
- Lost leads and missed sales
- More unprofitable contacts who take up space but never buy
(sadface) (rising panic)
But here’s the good part:
Email Deliverability problems are all totally avoidable (or fixable if you already have them) – Hooray!
And you’re in the right place to learn where to look and what to fix to keep your emails out of the spam folder and get them to the inbox more reliably.

Does your Email Marketing Platform have Email Deliverability issues?
I see this question all the time…
Does ActiveCampaign have bad Email Deliverablity? (Insert the Email Marketing Platform off choice!)
It’s a fair question to ask.
I know what you’re thinking…
My open rates don’t look great… and I heard someone say ActiveCampaign (or whatever) has deliverability issues… so if I just move to a new platform all of this will go away.
And my friend’s buddy’s aunty moved, and their open rates went to 80% in a week!
You’re not the first to think this, and you won’t be the last.
But in fact, ActiveCampaign does not have deliverability issues. And nor do most of the big reputable Email Marketing Platforms you might be using right now – MailChimp, MailerLite, Keap, Kit etc all have very good deliverability from the servers they use to send your emails.
ActiveCampaign does consistently out-perform other Email marketing Platforms, year on year, in independent deliverability testing, in case you’re wondering…
To see your current Email Marketing Platform’s performance on deliverability, search for “independent email deliverability test” and look at the results. Email Tool Tester is well respected in the industry for honest and impartial rankings.
So anway…. the answer to your open rate worries is NOT to move to a new Email Marketing Platform.
I know you’d love an easy quick solution but moving away from your current sending tech is not it. Moving (aka migration) just takes your Email Deliverability troubles with you to a new home.
And worse, it also feeds them a bit more, so the email-gobbling bad-deliverability spam-flagging monster grows even bigger – yikes!!
The best thing about Email Deliverability is that you are in the driving seat
This is excellent news, because it means there are lots of things you can do to improve your Email Deliverability.
So now that escape-route is sealed off, it’s time to blow the lid off your role and responsibilities, and get your agency and power revved up so that your valuable emails get seen.

Learn how Email Engagement & Email Deliverability work together
Email Engagement – you’ve probably been told that email engagement is important.
You’ve heard Engagement Tagging or Engagement Monitoring mentioned.
For ActiveCampaign users, maybe you already set up the (very) basic engagement tagging automations ActiveCampaign recommend.
But in truth – you’re not totally sure why email engagement matters so much, or what you’re supposed to do with it.
What is Email Engagement activity?
Email Engagement
A measure of how well your Emails do after they get delivered to the inbox
Three actions recipients can take that count as Email Engagement
- opens
- clicks
- replies
Why you should care about your Email Engagement
Email engagement is a twin star with Email Deliverability.
- Email Deliverability can’t be strong without good email engagement.
- Email Engagement can’t be strong without good email deliverability.
And if one goes down, the other is going down right alongside.
Email Deliverability and Email Engagement feed each other. Damage one, and you’ll damage the other.
Together, ActiveCampaign deliverability and engagement make either a vicious cycle, ora virtuous cycle.
You’d rather have the virtuous cycle – because that’s how your Email Marketing will help you make sales, generate revenue, and drive profits up. so you make more money.

It’s time for you to pay attention to make sure your emails get delivered to the inbox.

Go straight on now to our next blog in the Email Deliverability series – who’s who, what they each do, and why they’re important for deliverability,.
I’m right here with you, so that you can win the Get to the Inbox game with great Email Deliverability, always, no matter what platform you’re sending from.
