Three small changes so more people will OPEN your emails
1 – Use a clear Sender name
The sender name plays a crucial role in whether your emails get opened.
When your inbox is filled with emails from first-names only – Alex, Joan, or Maya – you have no idea who they are… Would you trust them enough to open the email?
With spam email increasing in volume dramatically, it’s SO important to be recognised and trusted, so you get the email open.
Use a full human name and the business name
For example, we use “Kay Peacey – Slick business” as the From Name for all our Slick Business emails
Consistent sender names build trust over time.

2 – Provoke Curiosity with the Subject line
Grab attention with your subject lines. They should either make your readers curious or offer a clear benefit or both!
Be as inviting as you can with the Subject Line
Hint at the email content or use curiosity-driven phrases – for example “This is embarrassing but important”
Humans are suckers for a bit of curiosity – you know it!
3 – Be more Visible in the crowded inbox with a witty Pre-Header
That small line of text following the subject line is called a pre-header.
Use a Pre-Header with emojis – and have fun with it!
Add an emoji at the start and end to help your email stand out from the crowd, and to avoid default lines like “View this in browser” being the first thing they see!

Small changes you can make so more people READ your emails
1 – Format for skim reading on mobile
Your email content needs to be mobile-friendly. Most people check emails on their phones while multitasking.
If your email is not easy to read, it’s likely to be ignored.
2 – Use short clear words and sentences that get to the point
Avoid big banners or images that take up the whole screen – these can mean a lot of scrolling on mobile, and many people won’t bother.
Pro tip: always check how your email will look on a mobile device before sending
You can Preview for Mobile very easily in the ActiveCampaign email designer.
3 – Include plenty of white space for readability
White space is your friend. It makes your emails look clean and easy to read.
Break up text into smaller paragraphs with good line spacing.
Don’t forget to add white space margins around the sides – especially for mobile view.

Changes these small things so more people CLICK in your emails
Tactics to get more clicks totally depend on what type of click you’re looking for.
Let’s break it down into the main three types of link clicks we can get in email marketing:
1 – Low Stakes Quick Clicks
The first step to getting more clicks is training your contacts to click on your emails.
Add quick clicks that are low on jeopardy and high on dopamine reward to make them used to clicking in your emails.
Here are a couple of quick click link types we’ve seen really great results with:
Content quick clicks
List new (or hot) content at the top of your email – blogs, YouTube videos, new content, offers, products or services

Curiosity quick clicks
Place these in a PS section at the end of the email – like a nice Easter Egg – with something funny, unrelated, quirky or interesting.
2 – Self Service Quick Links
Offer your readers easy access to the valuable resources you have and that they might want right when they’re reading that email.
This increases click-through rates – yay! – but it also bring in sales, YouTube subscribers, community joiners etc.
Include self-service options at the bottom of your email – sometimes called a Super Signature

3 – Important Clicks – Sales or CTA
When you want something specific from your readers, like a purchase, registration, or form fill, be direct, and repeat the link, way more times than you think necessary!
- Exclude quick links
Keep the focus solely on your call-to-action - Repeat the CTA
Include the link multiple times within the email - Use a variety of link formats
Links in text (on single words or whole lines) buttons & images – even gifs!
Make this small change so more people LOAD the page you link to
You don’t want to train your readers to avoid clicking your links 😱
If your pages load slowly, they will drift off, get distracted, and might never come back.
So check your page load speeds often, and take action if they’re slower than a sloth on a go-slow.
